Taylor’s new album The Tortured Poets Department is OUT and if you listened to the first 16 songs – well we have news for you. She added even MORE in the middle of the night and now the album has a total of 31 tracks.
This might be her most personal album yet and the vulnerability is more visible than ever.
Her famous “diary entry” type lyrics date back to 2006 and still continue today (keep in mind she recently won the 2024 album of the year for “Midnights”)
This is her 11th studio album – at the age of 34 this is incredible. She is making history as we speak.
At 2am today she declared that “TTPD” was really a double album, with “The Anthology” was added to the title.
She references Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy and even has a couple songs that are absolutely about her current boyfriend Travis Kelce. Wait until you get to thanK you aIMee – it has to be about her rival: Kim Kardashian. The letters spell out kim, even though she gives the bully in the lyrics a fake name (Aimee)
I loved the artistry of this album. I think it’s so cool how much Jack Antonoff has influenced her sound.
You hear some 80’s pop vibes on most of these songs, but she also references a lot of 70s musicians which brings my heart so much joy knowing young fans will learn more about the singers that influenced her from the start (A reminder that Taylor is named after 70’s artist JAMES TAYLOR – one of my favourites!)
She talks about Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, Clara Bow and a couple more. Great work – I was impressed and giddy about this.
My favourites SO FAR:
Down Bad
But Daddy I Love Him
thanK you aIMee
So high school
I also loved how there were a couple tracks that had some of her country FEARLESS album vibes. I had tears in my eyes. (specifically But Daddy I Love Him and So High School)
If you know more about the actual Easter Eggs we would love to hear your thoughts!
